  34. 1 - About CDValet
  35.     -------------

  37.     CDValet is the easiest to use audio CD player for Windows 95
  38.     and Windows NT 4.0.  CDValet is full featured, small, and
  39.     efficient.  CDValet uses a small CD Control Panel that
  40.     provides all the functionality of a portable CD player in
  41.     addition to displaying a small icon in the system tray to
  42.     ensure the smallest possible screen footprint.

  44.     CDValet makes itself even easier by being integrated with
  45.     the huge CD information database named CDDB(*).  CDDB
  46.     contains the artist names, titles, track titles, and other
  47.     information for over 77,000 CD's and is always growing.
  48.     CDValet uses CDDB to look for information about each CD
  49.     you play on your computer.  CDValet can query a local copy
  50.     of CDDB you download to your computer and allows you to
  51.     directly query the many Internet CDDBD servers(*) around
  52.     the world!  In addition, CDValet supports the "fuzzy"
  53.     search response from the Internet CDDBD servers which
  54.     greatly increases the success rate for finding information
  55.     about your CD's.

  57.     You can also use CDValet to submit new entries to CDDB.  By
  58.     supporting the SMTP Internet E-Mail protocol, CDValet allows
  59.     you to easily send CD information that you have entered
  60.     yourself for addition to CDDB.  All you have to do is
  61.     provide a return address, an SMTP server name, and CDValet
  62.     does the rest.  As more and more entries are submitted, the
  63.     fewer you will have to enter yourself!

  65.     CDValet can also import any information previously stored
  66.     by the standard Windows CD Player so you will not have to
  67.     type it in again.

  69.     CDValet provides all the audio CD play functionality that
  70.     you will need.  All basic play functions are supported
  71.     including: Play, Pause, Stop, Next Track, Previous Track,
  72.     Fast Forward, Fast Rewind, Random Play, Repeat All Tracks,
  73.     Repeat Current Track, Introduction Mode, and Programmed
  74.     Play Mode.  CDValet supports multiple CD-ROM drives and
  75.     CD-ROM changers and can also play random tracks selected
  76.     from any of the CD-ROM drives that contain audio CD's.

  78.     The CDValet CD Control Panel is a small, compact pop up
  79.     dialog.  The CD control panel allows basic control over the
  80.     CD player and shows the current status of the CD being
  81.     played or the title of the current track. The CD Control
  82.     Panel also has an integrated volume control that can
  83.     control any of the volume mixers on your sound card.

  85.     The CDValet CD Database Manager is an add-on program that
  86.     compliments the core functions of CDValet by adding the
  87.     ability to view, edit, and export the entries in the CDValet
  88.     database.  You do not have to have CDValet running to use
  89.     the CD Database Manager. The export function writes user
  90.     selected entries from the CDValet database out to two
  91.     standard "comma-delimited" text files. This allows you to
  92.     import the CD information into just about any commercial
  93.     database.

  120.     The registration fee for CDValet is $10.00 US.  When I receive
  121.     your registration, I will send you your Username and Password
  122.     code by e-mail.

  165. 3 - Installing CDValet
  166.     ------------------

  168.     1. If your distribution is a zip file, unzip it using an
  169.        appropriate unzip utility (I prefer and recommend
  170.        WinZip which is also available as shareware.)
  171.  
  172.     2. To install CDValet, run: setup.exe.
  173.  
  174.     3. Follow the instructions provided.

  177.     The default installation options are as follows:
  178.  
  179.     Directory:        C:\Program Files\CDValet
  180.     Program Group:    CDValet
  181.  
  182.     The installation for CDValet places the executables,
  183.     and other related files into the user specified directory.
  184.     It then adds a few icons to the specified program folder.
  185.     Finally, it modifies the registry entries that determine
  186.     the application to start when an audio CD is placed in your
  187.     CD-ROM drive(s).

  191. 4 - Uninstalling CDValet
  192.     --------------------
  193.  
  194.     To uninstall CDValet, open the 'Control Panel' and select
  195.     the 'Add/Remove Programs' icon.  Select 'CDValet Version 3.01'
  196.     from the displayed list and press the 'Add/Remove...' button.
  197.     Confirm the remove and CDValet will be removed from
  198.     your system.

  200.     NOTE: Due to a limitation of Install Shield, the un-install of
  201.           CDValet will not restore CDPlayer as the application to
  202.           auto-run for audio CD's.  You will need to copy the
  203.           provided file 'cdplayer.reg' from the CDValet directory
  204.           before you un-install CDValet.  Then un-install CDValet
  205.           and then double click on the file 'cdplayer.reg'.  This
  206.           will restore the CDPlayer as the application to auto-run
  207.           for audio CD's.

  211. 5 - Notes for Previous Users
  212.     ------------------------

  214.     When you run CDValet the first time, it will attempt to copy
  215.     existing database files from the EasyCD2 directory if it
  216.     exists.  Once these files have been copied, it will be safe
  217.     to uninstall EasyCD2 using the "Add/Remove Programs" applet
  218.     in the Control Panel.
  219.  
  220.     NOTE: In some cases, the un-installation of EasyCD2 will
  221.           disable the auto-play feature for CDValet.  If this
  222.           happens, just run CDValet from the Start menu and
  223.           CDValet will ask you if you would like to set it as
  224.           the default audio CD player.  Answer 'Yes' on the
  225.           dialog box, and this should re-enable auto-play.
